Q: Can a 27 inch 2014 iMac have its RAM upgraded?

I am trying to choose between a low end Mac Pro and a high specced iMac, and while doing so I noticed that RAM was priced at a premium for the iMac. So I was thinking of choosing the 8GB option and then upgrading it to 32GB later on, but I have read something about newer iMacs having its RAM soldered on, making it non-replacable ... Is this true for the newer 27 inch iMacs in the app store?

Yes, this is possible. Apple however picks the best pieces of hardware for it's computers, so I would recommend buying the exact same strips. I dont know if the RAM is soldered on, but if you buy the 8 GB version you'll have 2 or 3 slots left open, which would give you space to expand.

All 27" iMacs can have the RAM upgraded. iMacs can be fussy when it comes to RAM though so purchase quality RAM from reputable resellers such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial.
