I have an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4 I also have about 30 Kodack photo CDs that I wish to convert from PCD to Jpeg but Mavericks will not see the files, they are grey. Is there any way to convert them?

Just looked at one Kodak picture CD and there is a folder with JPEG photographs along - have you just opened the CD in Finder

Kodak CD I looked at is 12 years old -- JPEG is in the PHOTO folder - so you can drag to folder on system or you can import the jpeg pictures directly into Iphoto from the disk drive (make sure you are set up to import the entire photo not just thumbnail.

No need to install other solution.

iPhoto should be able to open the PhotoCD, also, and you should be able to import the photos from the disc by using iPhoto's import button.

Plus on this is posters 30 CD's still viable backup on those pictures - its just all the software that is on the drive won't work anymore - that maybe where the PCD format comes from.

iPhoto used to support the PCD format up to a few years ago. It's extremely frustrating that Apple decided to no longer support this format and now I'm directed to pay nearly $40 for an app that will (GraphicConverter 9). Did Lemke Software make a deal with Apple so we'd have to pay a premium for a very overpriced converter? And, how are decisions like this supposed to encourage the use of iPhoto?

Apple users already pay a premium to use a Mac. Obstacles like these eventually destroy loyalty to the Apple brand. Just ask Microsoft how their back room deals that exploited their customer base worked out for them.

FWIW, I've used Graphic Converter for many years and have updated it because it is superb at what it does. I also have other photo editing/enhancing software - each one is good at one or two particular things; I've never found one that'll do everything I want and the way I want it.

Well, to be fair to Apple, paying that "premium to use a Mac" provides you with free Mac OS X upgrades and a whole suite of free software. However, it is frustrating that iPhoto no longer supports the PCD format, but neither does a lot of software now.

Anyway, iPhoto won't be supported for much longer once the new Photos app for Mac OS X is officially launched. Very much looking forward to it. iPhoto is over 13yrs old now and was designed in an era before people starting taking thousands more photos because their camera (aka smartphone) was always on them.
