the Random Shut Downs (RSD) solution

well i know this topic has been addressed but i would like to confirm what i understand to be true which is

the only way to fix the random shut down problem is to send it in to apple to have them fix it. at least temporarily fix it.

is my assumption correct or is there some way that i personally can fix this nuisance.
