Q: Is there a way to replace my iPhone 5s screen without having to unenroll the fingerprint ID?

My iPhone 5s screen is completely broken (no visibility/usage). But I know it still works otherwise bc I get notifications for incoming texts, can still make calls with voice command, etc. I thought I would be able to get just the screen replaced in store for the $149.

Unfortunately, Apple is not able to replace the screen bc my fingerprint is enrolled in the system and that somehow creates a barrier to replacing the screen.

Is there a way to get rid of my fingerprint ID so that I can just replace the screen instead of having to replace the whole phone? Thank you!

Take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar...in the US some of the Apple stores are now able to do repairs of the iPhone 5-series in-store.  That includes screen replacement.  Take it in and see what they say.

To clarify, what I said previously is info directly from an Apple Genius Bar.

My question is if there is a way to take my fingerprint ID off my phone?

And why did the Genius not tell you how to turn off touch ID? Something is not making sense here...

It's probably because the screen on my phone is completely black and cannot be used. Unless there is a way to turn off touch ID by connecting to iTunes or something?

If by removing the Touch ID, the Genius means that the Passcode must be deactivated, the only way of doing it is to restore the phone as new via iTunes. I am still puzzled why the Genius did not offer you the solution to the problem as surely there must be many non-functioning screen that need to be replaced and need the Touch ID deactivated. There must be a protocol.

    FelipeV - you're right.

I took my iPhone to the Genuis Bar for the second time, and it turns out that the first person was a bit inept at their job. This time around, they told me that they would restore my iPhone and then be able to replace just the screen. And voila, it worked! I'm thrilled to pay the $149 (in store iPhone 5s replacement) instead of the ~$300 (complete phone replacement), but a bit astonished that the first employee told me that it couldn't be done.

    Anyway, thanks for the responses!

Glad you got it sorted out. Guess the original  Genius was....not.
