"Your iCloud account couldn't be removed at this time"

I changed my email address, and so I went in and changed my Apple ID as well. iCloud panel on my Mac is still stuck on the old email address. I clicked on Sign Out and it told me: "Your iCloud account couldn't be removed at this time. Turn off all iCloud services and try again." How do I do that? All the check boxes are grayed out. I tried entering my password, but it rejected that. I changed my Apple ID password, but it won't accept the new one either. How the heck do I "Turn off all iCloud services and try again"?

I installed Yosemite Public Beta, but it did not solve the problem. On Sunday I installed Yosmite Public Beta 2 and that DID allow me to Sign Out of iCloud and then prompted me for both a userid and password, so I put in the new ones and that worked. It's still true that the first time you sign in after upgrading it asks you for the password for the old userid, and does not allow you to change the userid. I did report that to Apple. So I don't know if the fix is in Public Beta 2, or just that it shut down all those things you mention when I upgraded.

This solved my problem. i couldn't sign out a friends icloud account from my macbook pro. He had signed in because i let him use my mac for facetime but he had used imessage and i had no idea. So when i was ready to sign him out from 'System preferences -> iCloud' it wouldn't let me. i was able to uncheck everything but 'keychains' so i couldn't figure out why. Then i read this and went through everything that would use iCloud. and signed out. Then Voila! thanks a million!
