Aug 7, 2014 6:40 PM in response to Csound1by Alan Ackerman,I cannot turn anything on or off as they are greyed out, and it will not accept my password. In any case it is unchecked. The only thing that is checked is Photos.

Aug 8, 2014 6:55 AM in response to Alan Ackermanby Csound1,Are you using an admin user account or a standard one. Have you tried after restarting the Mac?

Aug 8, 2014 7:30 PM in response to Csound1by Alan Ackerman,This is an ordinary userid, not an admin one. Why does that matter? Surely iCloud settings are by userid, not across the whole Mac. Just for the heck of it I went around and turned off iCloud on all my other userids, and it didn't help.
I have restarted many, many times.

When troubleshooting a problem that causes abnormal behaviour it's worthwhile trying what may seem to be an unconnected method.
But you don't have to.
Good luck.

Aug 27, 2014 12:05 PM in response to Alan Ackermanby eriley4,I figured it out!! I had to go into imessage, calendar, itunes, app store, and facetime and sign out of my account for each one. I was able to sign out in the icloud preferences after that and sign in with my updated info. Hope it works for you!

Aug 27, 2014 9:45 PM in response to eriley4by Alan Ackerman,I installed Yosemite Public Beta, but it did not solve the problem. On Sunday I installed Yosmite Public Beta 2 and that DID allow me to Sign Out of iCloud and then prompted me for both a userid and password, so I put in the new ones and that worked. It's still true that the first time you sign in after upgrading it asks you for the password for the old userid, and does not allow you to change the userid. I did report that to Apple. So I don't know if the fix is in Public Beta 2, or just that it shut down all those things you mention when I upgraded.

Mar 8, 2015 9:42 AM in response to eriley4by SantiagoXG,This solved my problem. i couldn't sign out a friends icloud account from my macbook pro. He had signed in because i let him use my mac for facetime but he had used imessage and i had no idea. So when i was ready to sign him out from 'System preferences -> iCloud' it wouldn't let me. i was able to uncheck everything but 'keychains' so i couldn't figure out why. Then i read this and went through everything that would use iCloud. and signed out. Then Voila! thanks a million!

May 6, 2016 8:39 PM in response to Alan Ackermanby Kudzai Mhou,I had the same problem solved it by creating a new user and giving them admin previledges, afterwards I downgraded the previledges of the profile which had the icloud which was giving me problems to standard . I restarted the machine and simply logged in using the new user and deleted my old user profile. Hope this helps
