Gmail address "rejected by server because it does not allow relaying" and can't edit primary SMTP server

I can't send email on my iPhone through me gmail account. When I try, I get a message titled "Unable to Send Email" that reads "A copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient [my email address] was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.

i've seen other inquires about this problem on the forums and the solution is consistently to turn off or edit the primary SMTP server in the account. However I am unable to do this. All of the text fields for the primary SMTP server are grayed out and don't let me alter them. I can toggle the "Server" switch between on and off, but I can't click the "Done" button afterwards, only the "Cancel" button.

I tried deleting my gmail account and recreating it but it still has all the same problems as before.

I can send from all but one of my gmail accounts (I have 3). On the third one, I get this error. Have deleted and re-added the account, all to no avail.

You did read the other posts about this being a Gmail issue, and not related to any of your devices, yes??? Therefore deleting and re-adding your accounts would make no difference whatsoever.
