Gmail address "rejected by server because it does not allow relaying" and can't edit primary SMTP server

I spoke with Apple and there is nothing wrong on their side. There is however lots of chatter on twitter about Gmail's SMTP servers being down since noon EST.

Problem is not just iOS. Same thing right now on Mac Mail, iOS, Outlook (on a windows PC). Problem seem to originate on the gmail server side. FWIW, gmail web interface works a-ok.

I can send from all but one of my gmail accounts (I have 3). On the third one, I get this error. Have deleted and re-added the account, all to no avail.

You did read the other posts about this being a Gmail issue, and not related to any of your devices, yes??? Therefore deleting and re-adding your accounts would make no difference whatsoever.

True, but my point was if it was gmail, wouldn't it affect all gmail associated email? In my case, it does not. Thanks for your "help"

Yep, same exact thing happening to me and started today. I did all things you have done and nothing.

Primary SMTP greyed out too.

Deleted and then reinstalled mail account same message, 'rejected does not allow relaying.'

Let's hope it gets fixed or someone figures it out.

If I find out anything about a fix I'll let you know.

Google mail problem reports have spiked since this morning. I assume because of this issue and that the Google folks will get it fixed. In the meantime I'm using the webmail interface (mac).

Seems to be working fine now.
