I know this question was posted before but somehow i cannot find the answer (or maybe the answer I want to see 🙂)
I'd like to be able to use my old iphone without any sim card, only need this temporarily so it's not a matter of not wanting to buy a sim card. Is it really possible to use iphone without a sim card? Many thanks in advance

If the phone has not been activated, it needs a SIM card to activate. The SIM card itself does not have to be active. After that, you can remove it, as no SIM is required for everyday use. You can still use Wi-Fi, of course.

Thank you for the swift response. Unfortunately I no longer have the old sim card (upgraded from i4 to i5 and they cut the card to fit i5) so will need to get sim card.

You can probably find a used SIM online for a buck or two.
