While I don't have an answer, other than the known issues with media (non) compatibility

even among those products supposedly compatible, due to recording speed, media brand

and other variables, there may be some vintage information available online in reference

to the types of supported media the M2451 CD read-only drive could play.

The site LowEndMac used to cover several models and had vintage info over several years.

And Everymac.com site had some information but may not go into depth of which -R +R

or other different CD media specs may have been able to work in those PowerBook drives.

Some results (perhaps vague/unhelpful) appear in a search result, such as this google page:

    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=PowerBook+Wallstreet+CD-Rom+Module+M2451+me dia+compatibility+lowendmac

Those swappable bay modules were a fine idea, too bad they've gotten away from the

means to add a second battery, a media drive; & in a custom form, have seen where

some have adapted a flash memory card as bootable drive in some old G3 models.

Sorry to not have a direct answer in this regard.

    Good luck & happy computing!

If the module you mention is the same one as in the Pismo then yes. I burned some CDs the other dat on my powermac G5 but at 2x and up to 8x. basically I am never in a rush to burn discs. From what I understand, burning at slow speeds helps to make a better disc. In any even, yes my Pismo, if it hosta the same reader, does indeed read write able discs. If you need more details on the discs used and my exact cd drive model let me know. I am not at my desk now so I can't offer it to you know.

As it happens I have that machine in the 512k backside 233 Mhz model 14" screen model.  It came with a 20x optical drive.  But I agree, don't use CDs faster than 4x unless you absolutely have to.  And there is no burn capability.  It is just a plain CD-ROM.  It supports ISO 9660, and maybe some earlier Joliet versions.   300 Mhz versions came with an optional optical DVD drive with hardware encoder, and software encoder on faster models.  None of the black models came with anything but either a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, except as after market from places such as http://www.macsales.com/
