Hi there. I have an old (2005) 17' IMac (Mac OsX 10,5,8 - 9L3 1a) doing ok, but to old to comunicate with my iPhone (I Tunes mainly) and of course no ability for airplay. (For details : Processor 2GHz Intelcore 2Duo; Memory 1G667 DR2 SDRAM). Must I consider it as obsolete and change it, or do you think it can be upgraded with Maverick without crashing? Thanks for advice.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), year 2005
If it's a 2005 iMac, it would be a PowerPC model and not an Intel one; those iMacs can't be upgraded past 10.5.8.
If it's a Core 2 Duo Mac, it can be upgraded to 10.7.5 or 10.9.4 depending on which model it is, but needs to have at least 2GB of RAM first.

Thanks a lot Niel and Babowa; It's perfectly clear; I need now to verify if it's really from 2005 or post mi 2007 ... going to look for my voutcher ... a real archeological challenge!

And, remember that you would also need more RAM - although they mention 2 GB, practical use has shown that 4 GB can be considered a minimum.
I got my answer, as I bought it on march. So I'll wait for the future Yosemite to buy a new IMac, meanwhile taking care of my current antiquity with frequent backups. Anyway thanks again guys for your friendly, fast and acurate answering. I will have pleasure to come back in case of need in the future.
