Q: How to uninstall Viber app on MBA 10.9.4

I want to uninstall an app called Viber (a communication app).  It was downloaded to my MBA but never activated.  By that I mean it was not set up to use contacts and whatever else it was intended to do.

The developer website offers no clear advice about unistall.

There is no uninstall program that I can locate.

When I do a long hold on the app, it wiggles, but no "X" appears.

i am ready to do the "drag and drop to the trash", but have concerns about residual files (kext or otherwise).

Any advice is welcomed.

Incidentally, I prefer to NOT install and use some sort of apple cleaner software.

    Hi ..

Download the AppCleaner utillity. It's free >  AppCleaner (Mac) - Download

It's not a third party Mac cleaning utility. It only removes the app and all of the associated files.

    Very easy to use.

It is safe to move the App into the Trash. Viber is a Drag & Drop application. Don't bother about what can be left behind. Usually they are only harmless files.

    Thanks Alberto,

How do you happen to know it is a "drag and drop" application?

i am assuming that means it is set up to install as a "bundle" ( if I understand the term).  I did look at the app contrasts and it was a folder with a variety of other documents within it.

Not sure if the term third party is correct.  I prefer to avoid using apps from outside the apple store.  In fact, this is why I am trying to remove the Viber app.

No. Because Viber has no install. To use it you just need to Drag & Drop its icon wherever you want.

Many objects in OS X are bundles. Applications, Kext, Plug-in and so on.

Thanks again.  I think I am learning a lot here.

When I get an app from a reliable source, such a Google, I notice that after I download the file and go through the double click and open process I am presented an icon which I then drag to the applications folder (such as Google Earth).

I am assuming this is what you mean by a "drag and drop" application.

Other apps I have obtained from outside the apple store require me to install them.  After, I can place the icon into the apps folder.

    Yes. It is.

Usually, but not necessarily, programs that need to be installed have the box icon, and the installation process is automated.

    Hello,

I have been trying to uninstall vibe on my MBA as well. Usually I just drag and drop to trash to uninstall but this does not seem to work with viber.

Any suggestions on how to do it?

I tried to look into the viber folder as well but could not find any options to uninstall.

Please let me know how can I get rid of it... I prefer doing it without installing any other 3rd party app to be able to uninstall it.

    Thanks a lot

    DEV247,

Go to your applications folder and drag the actual app to the trash. Not just the launch icon.
