My iPod won't sync with iTunes

This is really frustrating me at the moment. My iPod won't sync with my iTunes. I have a 4th generation iPod touch, with all updates, and my iTunes is fully updated too.

Every time I connect my iPod to my computer, it begins to charge, but it doesn't actually connect with iTunes, and every time I try and manually sync my iPod, the sync button is grey and I am unable to click it.

It would be great if someone could tell me how to fix this problem, as I need to add some new music to my iPod as soon as possible!

This did not work, I am using an apple USB Cord. I also have issues with connecting to Itunes Store from my desktop; gave up trying; I am able to get to it under a different user's acct, but not my main administrative user. I worked back and forth with apple and with Kaspersky.....nobody has been able to fix and gave up. Now I cannot sync? I have done system restores, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, Kaspersky....many other suggested fixes from the community....nobody has given me any suggestions that work.

i had this same problem. after countless hour of searching and uninstalling/B.S. that apple support and the so called "community specialists" tell you to do i finally figured it out.

you need to use an apple brand cord. aftermarket usb/charging/firewire cables will not work to sync ipod/iphone/ipad. they will charge your things but will not transfer info.

i repeat for people wasting hours searching for an idea...........

you need an apple brand usb cord to sync ipod.

you need an apple brand usb cord to sync iphone.

you need an apple brand usb to transfer any data.

apple should sticky this solution at the top of all their support pages so people don't waste their time going through all the worthless steps apple tells you to do.

It happened to me, too. But in my case, this occurred after I had restored my iPod nano. I went to the drop down menu just like you did and still wasn't able to get darn device to synch.

But then I realized that, because I had restored my iPod to factory settings, there was no data checked to be synched, so I was able get iTunes and iPod synched when I checked the boxes.

Could it be the same thing with you?

Here is what fixed it for me. I have a Dell running W 10. I reinstalled itunes like they told me to. But, they didn't say I also needed to make sure all of the associated Apple programs had to be uninstalled, like Bonjour, Apple Software Update, etc. After I did this, the reinstalled itunes worked like a champ. Thanks to Shalisa at Apple tech support for helping!!
