Q: How do I set up a separate monitor on MacBook Air 13?

Can both an external monitor and the MacBook Air screen be working at the same time but showing different "windows"? How is that set up?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Thanks. The job aid is very helpful. It leaves out some of the connection info, but helps with the issue of having different apps on different screens
