Can't get pictures on iPod nano 7th gen

I tried to get photos onto my iPod nano 7, but the tab for photos doesn't show up on iTunes! The device itself has a spot (and shortcut) for getting photos. I tried dragging photos straight from iPhoto, but I get the same response each time- "(Insert random numbers and letters here) was not copied to iPod because it cannot be played on the iPod."
