Sharing Adobe files from Mac to PC

I have been experiencing an error when attempting to open pdf's stored in the public folder on our Mac.
The message reads:
"There was an error opening this document. The file is already open or in use by another application."

*Also discovered none of the InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator files can opened from PC's can be opened while they are stored on the Mac either.

It doesn't matter which PC we use to access the pdf's from and happens regardless of which version of Acrobat is being used, the same error occurs.

The public folder on the Mac has no restrictions.

Mac 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel

OS 10.9.4

Adobe Creative Suite 2014

Hi Chuck, I suspect it's some Adobe thing that has a hang on them, but...

Unfortunately it's not isolated to a single file. It's ALL the InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop files. None of them can be opened from any of the PC's in the office. Some files do open, but they are .txt and Microsoft Publisher files.

We used to be able to access them up until about a year ago.

Try the name of just one that doesn't work, we may find the single culprit.

It's the ACLs (Access Control List). When you create a share on a Mac the ACLs are specific to the machine unless the machine is joined to a Domain. If the machine is joined to a Domain and the account that is logged into on the machine is a Domain account then the ACLs will be honored to those who have Domain Accounts. So if the "Everyone" is listed in the permissions and the "Everyone" listed is for the Domain permissions then the permissions are very wide open to all users on the Domain. However, if you are on a standalone machine or a machine logged in to a machine only account then the ACLs are specific to only those accounts that exist on the machine.

BTW this is true for a Windows as well.
