WD time machine not recognized.

Hello everyone, I recently wiped out my macbook because it has been running slow. I have a time machine backup that I usually use with my iMac. its a WD 500 gb

external drive. On my iMac I usually connect it with firewire because it doesn't work with usb for some reason, so on my macbook in recovery mode I picked time machine backup and it did not recognize my time machine because I used usb since there is no firewire. I have a mid 2010 macbook.

Hello alilio

If the external hard drive is not seen by USB, then the only thing I can think of is get a new external drive and then migrate your Time Machine to the new drive so that way your MacBook can read it. You can use your iMac to move that information over and check out the article for the step-by-step process to get that going.

Hey alilio

If you follow the steps to move your Time Machine back up to another drive, you will be using your iMac to do those steps. If that port is not working on the external hard drive, then there is not much else to do besides contacting the manufacturer of the external hard drive to see if there is any warranty to get it fixed or replaced. You can try to see if it is an issue with the USB cable and try a different one as one last troubleshooting option.
