printer software 2.18 and Epson R1900

Since updating to printer software version 2.18 ALL of my prints from my Epson Stylus Photo R1900 are darker than when I printed them in the past. This is true for my MacBook Pro (retina) and MacPro (late 2013), both of which are running 10.9.4.

Does anyone know how to get earlier versions of the printer software update?

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

You want to restore the EPSON folder from a backup when the printer worked. This is where it's located:

It's in the HD/Library/Printers folder.

Otherwise go to Apple's Downloads website and and try version 2.1.7. Maybe that one will work.

Have you tried going to the System/Printer and Scanner preference pane, Control (right) - clicking on the Epson printer there and selecting Reset Printer System from the contextual menu?

Earlier today I mounted one of the backups and dragged the Epson folder to the appropriate location on the MacPro. When I attempted to print I got a message stating that the software had been incorrectly installed.

I then installed 10.9.4 again...which, as expected, accomplished nothing.

Then I searched the Support section of the Apple site and found the reference to printer update 2.17. However, when you follow that link you arrive at printer update 2.18. Oops! Thanks, Apple.

Somewhere along the way, prior to installing 2.18 again, the print dialog changed to what I suspect is thte CUPS interface. The print settings section had entries like General 1, General 2, etc. Whatever it was, the prints were then OK. Since I didn't know how I had arrived at that point I went to the next step.

So I downloaded 2.18, performed the installation and the warning went away. Unfortunately, the dark prints came back.

I did not try resetting the printing system. I will try that in an hour or so.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Not having agreement between my monitors and the prints for the first time in years is driving me a little crazy!

Since updating to EPSON Printer Software Update 2.18, I have not been able to print to my EPSON Stylus DX6000 (under OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard). The printer dialog box says

Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/ MacOs/rastertoescpll failed

Using Time Machine, I restored rastertoescpll.app from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, but that didn't work. I then restored the entire EPSON folder from

/Library/Printers/

from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, and that still didn't work.

I was not able to find the Update 2.17 on the Apple site, but I was able to find it on the www.techspot.com site.

I downloaded EPSON Printer Software Update 2.17 from

http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16158/

This downloaded EPSONPrinterDrivers2.17.dmg

I dragged the EPSON folder to the Trash, and emptied the Trash. I then ran the installer for the 2.17 drivers. After switching the printer off and on again, I was finally able to print.

Bob, It's possible that you had the official Epson drivers installed before. The OS X Epson drivers are different (I think they are the GutenPrint/GIMP drivers....). Anyway, I have the Stylus 9890 and have reinstall the official Epson version after updates like these. I run the Guttenprint uninstaller, although I'm not sure you need to anymore after Mavericks (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.phpon the right about halfway down) and then reinstall the Epson drivers (downloaded from Epson...); reboot; and, reinstall the printer. Before you delete the printer you can snag any custom presets by copying the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.YOUR_PRINTER_NAM E_HERE.plist and putting it back after you add the printer back.

May be worth a shot, Mike
