I want to lock my screen while I run programs overnight or during lunch. How do I do this? I've read in several places to do control-shift-eject, but that doesn't work - it pauses the program.
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
Use the Energy Saver Preference in OS X Preferences panel.
Set the computer to never sleep and set the display to sleep for whatever interval you want.
The display will sleep, but your computer will still run its tasks while your display is sleeping.
Also, make sure " spin down hard drives whenever possible" is UNCHECKED.
In Energy Saver I checked "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off". ("Put hard disks to sleep where possible" was already unchecked).
Thanks, that seems to be working. Though I won't know 100% sure until I try a long run.
