Is BaDoink a malware?

Using Chrome, I was surfing through tumblr blogs on my iPad until I went into this one blog that redirected my browser to BaDoink App Store.

I restarted my browser, and it hasn't came back since. But, I'm paranoid that my iPad may have been infected with malware.

Have any of you guys heard of BaDoink? Is it a reputable company?

Hey interfer0n,

My name is Matthew and I work for BaDoink. Please let me apologize on behalf of BaDoink.com.

It sounds like you were having trouble with a hacker who was using our affiliate program. We sometimes get these affiliates who signup and break our ToS. Once we find affiliates that do this then we terminate them from our program so it does not happen again.

Can you provide more information for me if possible;

1) What URL you were on when this happened?

2) What was the URL of the BaDoink that you go redirected to.

Feel free to reach me at matthew.boyle (at) teamcmp.com

As for BaDoink, we are a growing company and have offices in New York and Barcelona. We are strongly opposed to any sort of malicious activity.

Thanks and regards,

Matthew

for what it's worth, a while ago my browser was also hijacked to a web site called badoink.com. it was a website offering an app to view explicit adult material.

the page carefully mimicked the apple app store design. the price was slightly higher than most apps in the app store, but otherwise, it looked exactly like the apple app store, right down to the layout, colours, and fonts. it even had some "reviews" posted.

the fact that i was hijacked (via a hacked web host), and that it was a deliberately deceptive setup, and i was being offered hardcore material (in exchange for my credit card), leads me to question their business ethics. i cannot comment on whether the offer was legitimate, because i didn't buy it.

yammv.

ps. for the people who glibly claim that there is no malware on ios, note that even though nothing was actually loaded onto my device(s), i consider an attempt to obtain my credit card information to be a serious problem. (plus, the misguided advice of those who told me to "fix" this by reloading the ios device, would have wasted many hours of my life, and risked the loss of my data, which is also not a good outcome.)
