Q: Conflict between iTunes Match and Windows 8.1

I have been running iTunes on my fully updated Windows 8.1 PC for some time, without any particular issues. A few days ago, I activated iTunes match. It worked just fine, in the perspective of my iPhone and iPad. However, my PC stopped being responsive: Long time-outs on just about anything, and dialog windows refusing to appear (one of them being the McAfee console ....). A virus search using Microsoft's emergency services showed nothing.

The moment I de-activated iTunes match, everyhing reverted to normal.

My conclusion is, there is a major conflict between whatever the iTunes match service does, and the Windows 8.1 operating system.

Any idea what this is all about, and if there is anything I can do about it (except avoiding using the match functionality)?

I have the latest update of iTunes for PC.

iPhone 4, iOS 5

    Hi lars1950,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're seeing issues with Windows responding slowly since enabling iTunes Match. The article below may resolve the issue for you, it describes possible conflicts with Layered Service Providers and how to prevent them.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, Jason. I understand the answer but I found nothing in the way of suspected conflict (not meaning there isn't one anyway).

The problem does not quite fit the description in the support documents: It is triggered by iTunes Match, and nothing else in the ways of Apple software. What unique port number(s) does Match use ?

Killer conflicts, like this one appears to be, are quite unusual if software is chosen and installed in a disciplined manner. Between me and my family, I'm aware of only one case over >10 years.. Is Apple aware of the situation, and planning an update of iTunes, making it less susceptible?

    Thanks, Jason -

I truly appreciate your willingness to help. However, at this point, I have decided to give up on iTunes Match and work with local copies of my Music library.

If I may take a step back: The integration of Apple Apps/services and the Windows PC World is generally buggy. I understand that Apple must prioritize Apple hardware. The consequence I draw is that I can use the full, exciting set of functionality only on/between Apple units. On a PC, Apple stuff should be kept simple, e.g., with regards to iTunes functionality or iCloud integration (the latter also being a half-baked story, from the perspective of my PC)..

    Best regards

    Lars

I too have the same problem. I was using iTunes Match on a Windows 8.1 laptop and, though buggy, it was working. Now with the latest iTunes update, iTunes Match doesn't want to turn on at all. It turned itself off, keeps asking me if I want to add this computer, and if I do get it to log in briefly it doesn't show the Match library already uploaded and will not add any new songs. It just plain doesn't work and I hope they come out with a fix for it soon - as well as getting rid of the ridiculous 25.000 song limit.
