I have an old iPod and my computer does not recognize it.

I have an old computer running XP. It got infected with malware and had to have it's brain erased and reistalled. When I plug in my iPod modelA1199 emc2115 the error message said it could not find it. Is that because I had to get a new password or what is the problem?

iPod classic, Windows XP
