App Store won't load

I was trying to open up App Store to buy some stuff, but it won't load. The window is open and I have the loading wheel in the upper left corner but after some time, it simply disappears without loading anything, the only thing I can see is the App Store logo right in the middle of the window. They only thing indicating that something is going on behind the unbreakable surface is the little number two over the updates logo, indicating that I have two updates to download, but since the updates tab won't load either, I have no way of telling what two apps need updating, presuming that I do indeed have two updates to download. Any ideas what may be causing the trouble? I tried log out of and then log back into my Apple ID, but the only thing I achieved was that now I couldn't log back in.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Alright. I opened up the Console, deleted the older logs and then opened up the App Store as well. First I tried to check out the updates, then I tried to log into my Apple ID. I failed both times. But, I got three lines in the Console, and here they are:

2014.08.10. 18:22:04,965 com.apple.SecurityServer[15]: Session 100020 created

2014.08.10. 18:23:16,071 com.apple.WebKit.WebContent[1569]: CKSoftwareMap: Registering with Daemon

2014.08.10. 18:29:04,739 com.apple.CrashReporter.ACRRDaemonPlugin[184]: Submission failed with the launch daemon: (null)

I'm not sure that these are the logs you asked for, or that they have any information regarding my problem, but I hope that these will help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

Step 1

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.

Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

Step 2

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Today, when I booted up my MacBook I managed to do a software update and after I did it, and afterwards the number two indicating the number of the available updates changed to 1. I did it through a pop-up and had to try logging in into my Apple ID four or five times. But, afterwards I was still unable to do anything with App Store. Then I did both steps, and the problem was present both times. But, after I've done step one and ever since, I can't click the tabs like Updates and Top lists which I had been able to do before.

Also, I realized that iTunes (which I use once in a blue moon) is having some similar problems. I can't connect to the online store and it won't download album covers. Actually, it haven't been downloading covers last time I used it (maybe five or six months back) but I thought it was because of the crappy internet connection in my apartment and just added the covers manually.

Back up all data.

From the menu bar, select

System Preferences... Network

If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.

For anyone coming here looking for a solution to the App Store not loading ...

I had a similar problem - the App Store icon would bounce forever and nothing would load. While this was happening the entire machine would slow down. I had to force quit. The App Store worked in a new user account I created and used my AppleID in, so I knew I didn't have to re-install the app.

Moving "com.apple.appstore.plist" to the Desktop did not help.

Just by chance I found in ~/Library/Preferences a file "com.apple.storeagent.plist". There were about 300 files with names like "com.apple.storeagent.plist.0eK4FsG", all zero bytes in length. It turns out that the file was corrupt. Trashing it solved the problem.

Hope this helps someone.

Hello there,

I just had the same problem (App Store flagging an update in the apple menu but, upon launching, stubbornly stuck on an empty window with the circling indicator in the upper left corner spinning). I restarted my MacBook Pro in safe mode and the App Store worked right away, and it kept working after restarting in normal mode. I have to say that after the Safe Boot launching the regular booting seems noticeably faster than before, too.

Thanks!

I'm having some hard time logging onto Mac App Store as well and here is what my Console says:

Not sure what it all means but could certainly use community's help. thanks!
