My screen looks melted under the glass - how did this happen?

I have a 13" Macbook Pro that looks like the screen melted. When I left my home, it was working fine (and it was on) and when I came home, it was still on, but the screen seems to have melted under the glass. This laptop is less than three years old, and the damage is physical. I rarely move this laptop - pretty much stays in one spot and I did't drop it or spill anything on it. What is this damage from? The glass is undamaged above...

The best place to get an answer is at an Apple store genius bar. Make an appointment and the visit will be FREE. You will then in a position to make an informed decision.

Yeah, I am planning on taking it in during the week since it's nearly impossible to get an appointment on the weekend. It was left wide open and not in direct sunlight. I pretty much keep it in the same place all the time. I've looked online to see if anyone has had this problem. Aside from the well documented graphics issue in this particular model (Macbook Pros sold in 2011), I haven't found anything that even looks close to this issue.

Considering the cost of this laptop, I have to add I am pretty disappointed in the quality/durability of this product. Right after the warranty ran out, the touchpad began to malfunction (another well documented issue - the erratic jumping touchpad and/or windows randomly opening and closing). I've managed to work around that problem, but the damaged screen is really too much. Thanks for your replies.
