Q: how do i load library sounds into logic express 7

I have an old power mac G4 with extremely limited memory. I've just had it repaired after 3 or 4 years of it not working. the main reason i had it repaired is that I remembered I had a version of Logic(Logic express 7) on there, and I'm eager to work on some ideas I have. I'm relatively clueless when it comes to home recording on computers... I expected to be able to build my drum tracks using sounds contained within the programme in the 'piano roll' window, I thought I'd be able to 'trial and error' my way along, but I've fallen at the first hurdle as I don't appear to have access to any soft synths or drum sounds etc. I've seen an upgrade to Logic express 8 online, would that install the missing software? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Logic Studio, Mac OS X (10.4.11), logic express 7 actually

*groan* Looks like I'm gonna need to buy a G5... After a bit more research (which i should have done before i spent £120 getting my G4 fixed) it seems I need a bigger processer, more RAM, a more recent OS, and a bigger hard drive than I have on my G4, and I figured it would cost me more to upgrade all those things on the G4 than to just buy a fully equipped second-hand G5, which I'm hoping I can pick up for around £50-£75. At least I got the Alesis Interface you recommended, but looks like I'm gonna be waiting another month or so before I'm up and running

I'm sorry to hear that you've hit a road block, but I'm glad you got the audio interface. Baby steps. I know how frustrating it can be when you just want to make some music but you're stymied by inadequate gear.

I know you're on a tight budget, but if you decide to upgrade to a newer computer you should try to bite the bullet and escape the 20th-century power pc era and move into the intel mac era. Mac minis and iMacs are great. Whatever you get, you'll want to make sure it's somewhat "future-proof" in that you will be able to add more memory, load additional software and plugins that require an intel chip, upgrade your OS, etc. Better to make that decision now than to find yourself later in a position similar to the one you're in now with your G4.

Yeah, VERY frustrating. I have the songs ready to develop and the guitarist on standby, just need to finish writing/recording the backing tracks for live performance, as I was saying earlier. It should be fairly straight forward once I get the equipment I need (I think I may regret saying that...), as the drum programming is gonna be quite basic, with some minimal keys/piano and (maybe) live bass to record.

Tight budget is right sadly...my income is such that it takes me a month to save around £100 so I can only go the cheap-secondhand route for this project at this stage, but I'm confident I can do what I need to do with 10 years-old gear, as I did something similar 15 years ago!

But yeah, you're right, and I will gradually improve my gear as I go along.
