Remote access to 10.5 Server

I have tried several NAS products (i.e. WD MyCloud) and have not been happy with them. I have an old G5 iMac and was thinking of turning it into a 10.5 server. Is there a way to use that so allow remote access to the file contents using an iPhone and iPad? For example, if I am not at home and want to access a file or some of my photos or music, can I go to a URL or use an app to access the contents stormed on the server?

I am a long time Mac user but never worked with the server software so I am completely new to this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David
