How do I import a power point slide to keynote?

How do I import a power point slide into keynote? I tried drag & drop and copy and paste and no luck. I'm sure I'm missing something...

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I am having the same problem. the Power Point 2011 file I created (v.14.6) will not open in Keynote 09 (v.5). Even when I go to file:open the status bar gets about 1/4 of the way and just hangs up. any ideas?

Gary - thanks so much! So I basically convert the power point into a Keynote by opening from within Keynote. Fantastic! Thanks again!

Either the file is corrupt (does it open in PowerPoint?) or there are effects or fonts that are not compatible with Keynote.
