Q: Cannot initialize watchdog service

I've this constant message in my console (tried with different user accounts) :

10/08/2014 22:22:17,219 watchdogd[2095]:  [watchdog_daemon] @(    wd_watchdog_open) - IOIteratorNext failed (kr=0)

10/08/2014 22:22:17,219 watchdogd[2095]:  [watchdog_daemon] @(      wd_daemon_init) - could not initialize the hardware watchdog

10/08/2014 22:22:17,219 watchdogd[2095]:  [watchdog_daemon] @(                main) - cannot initialize the watchdog service

10/08/2014 22:22:17,221 com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.watchdogd[2095]) Exited with code: 255

10/08/2014 22:22:17,221 com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.watchdogd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Note that sometimes i also have :

10/08/2014 22:22:07,000 kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

If i alert about that it is because i observe also very annoying comportment in debugging my AIR application with Flash Builder, so i suspect these issues are linked.

Any idea ?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

I took my machine in (iMac 27 2013) because the monitor pivot snapped.  Ever since I was having long boots, never a problem before.  At the start of the holiday all of a sudden once the machine booted it'd be fine for about 5 minutes, then any click or operation would cause beachball/pinwheel for minutes and then proceed.  Any click or operation takes several minutes to execute.  I was in Mavericks at the time and started up in safe mode and ran disk utility to see if there were any permission errors and/or drive issues.  There were some permission issues which i ran repair on and ran disk repair anyways.  I also shocked the p-ram several times.  nothing worked.

I called apple support and they told me to upgrade to El Capitan. Initial instal seemed to not complete? so i did it again through the update function. It finally worked.  But no good.  U see disk2 I/O error and watchdog service unable to run.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Brett

I just started getting this on my Mac Mini, El Cap last night. Screen re-draws were so slow I could see them fill screen.

Ran the terminal command as posted by Linc Davis and ONLY got this output.

If you want help, you need to start Your Own Topic/Thread. It's easy - go to the top page (the El Cap page since you're using 10.11 now). Find the Large text block that says Search or ask a Question, and post there.

    http://eclecticlight.co/2015/10/02/gett ... run-clean/

Getting El Capitan to run clean
Once the dust has settled after a major upgrade, check that OS X is running smoothly by browsing your logs.

    Fixed by install/re-install?

Bottom line is that I eventually opened the Mac Mini up, and put in a Samsung SSD.

Leaving the existing rotational drive in there.

Installed fresh copy of El Cap.

Bumped RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB

    All is well.

I know this does not pinpoint 'root cause' and fix.

But this will work for me now.

    Thanks for your participation.

My Mac Mini Late 2012 i7 1TB became useful only after I did a full install of El Capitan AND I installed an SSD as the boot drive.

I bought a two-drive cable on the web. So, I still have the old, painfully slow, rotational platter drive in it. That is nice because IF I need/ed files or such off of it, it's still there.

I never was able to analyze and fix whichever one or more items combined to make my Mac Mini absolutely useless.

This is my best advice from personal experience only.

    Some more info that might be pertinent;

I'm running OSX 10.10.5 booting from an external SSD via USB. I've tried booting from the internal HDD and the watchdog messages don't appear.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hello, Im having a problem with a computer I have bought. Macbook Pro Mid 2010 with 15 inch screen core i7

It came installed with El Capitan on it and I have tried reinstalling it to correct the problem I'm having. The problem- It hangs or is extremely slow on normal startup. Sometimes stuff just won't work at all however on SAFE start up it seems to be okay.

Now this is the first time Ive tried this and I've copied the Log File as per your instructions hopefully correctly.

Would you please take a look at it and see is you can see any problems?

    Pasting below now-

I should also have mentioned, there is plenty of hard drive space. Iv'e gone into activity monitor and nothing seems to be using massive CPU and at idle its at 90 tp 100%

Sync services seemed to report some errors. Please see below. Are these okay?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
