Q: Printer trouble "enter department id"

My Cannon printer used to work from this computer.  Then it started turning the paper to landscape without asking.  I could not find a simple way to turn it back.  After "messing around" with settings (including some security settings to try to install Java) I now cannot print at all.  I am prompted to enter a department id with 8 characters...  but I don't have one.  It is a home computer AND there is no box to type it in if I DID have one.
