Q: Cannot empty trash can in iMac. Says I have no access to some of the items. Any ideas?

I created some files and folders on my iMac and deleted them. This time around when I try to empty the trash can via secure emptying it says I have no access to some of the items... Very strange. I had done same a while ago and worked with same files and folders. I restarted system. Same problem persisting. "Get Info" on files shows read and write. It is my own personal Mac... Any ideas? Thank you.

    Can you move items to and from that volume in the Finder?

    When I drag the files from the Trash folder out into another folder or the desktop it creates copies of them. Does not allow me to move them out of trash can. When I delete these copied files again and I try empty the trash can, it works for the copied files but not for the original ones. Tonight I will try moving them to the same folder they came from in My Book and see if that works.

    Back up all data on the drive, then run Repair Disk in Disk Utility.

    An update for you: Before I did anything else I thought of trying to move those folders that e=refused to be emptied from trash can into My Book (the external hard drive). That was done. Whereas if I tried to move them anywhere else they would be copied and still be left in trash can. When I tried to move them to their point of origin they were moved. Then I moved to trash each one and emptied. Worked. Except when I go to one folder remaining which still refuses to be emptied via secure or not. I saw this was shared somehow. I removed that and tried again to no avail. I then moved to trash each file under the folder and emptied. Worked. So now I have empty folder non-shared which refuses to be emptied. I did your suggestion with repair disk. still not working. No idea what is wrong with this empty folder that refuses to be emptied from trash.

    Turn off File Sharing, if it's turned on, and try again.

    I did. Not working. Found some others having same problem and one suggestions but cannot make them work. Problem: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."

    Whenever you use the "Copy" command, you're writing to the Clipboard. When you "Paste," you're writing from the Clipboard.
