Arduino needs Java SE 6 ... but Mavericks can't do that?

I need helping getting an application (Arduino, which allows C-based programming for a micro controller environment) to launch, but after install, I get the following error message:

User uploaded file

I installed version 8 of the Java Development Kit, so according to the Terminal, I'm running Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_11-b12).

I've searched the web to see if I can get Arduino to recognize my more updated Java, and I can't find anything.

The weird thing is...I have the same exact Java version on my other MacBook Pro (2009!) running Mavericks and it runs perfectly. I've tried re-installing and everything, and it doesn't work. Is there a library I need to update / delete? Thoughts?

Oh, the world of Java....

Regards,
Steve
