earpods volume controls and mic not working

I have been using my iPhone 5 phone with the provided earpods for over a year now. Suddenly today the volume controls and the mic do not seem to be working. I am being able to pause and change sound tracks using the middle button on the remote but the volume controls are not functioning and when I tried recording my voice using the earpods, I cannot hear my own voice but only hear disturbance. Someone please provide a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Hello there, kirat_dhillon.

The following Knowledge Base article offers some great pointers for troubleshooting the stereo headset buttons on your iOS device:

The stereo headset buttons are not functioning properly

  1. Verify the headset being used is compatible with the iPhone.
  2. Verify there is no debris in the headset jack.
  3. Insert the stereo headset and play audio using the Music app. Verify both left and right channels are functioning.
  4. Press the center button to see if it can pause and resume audio.
  5. Make a phone call and see if the microphone is working.
  6. If the issue persists, try another headset.
  7. If the issue persists with another headset, have the iPhone serviced.

My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
