Is there a way to scan from a Xerox copier to a Mac desktop?

I have a Mac that is using a Xerox copier to print and email. Now, I want to be able to scan from the copier to the desktop. I've been told by the service guys that this isn't possible.

Is there a way?

Here is the trick. Go to the copier and poke around on the menu. Look for an "admin" option that will print a "configuration page". Print that page. It will have all the details about the installed options and model numbers. With that, you can correctly find and setup your printer driver. It may scan to your desktop or you might have to use some other method. No way to tell from here.
