Q: iPhoto '11 -> Photos??

I have been using iPhoto since the first generation of the software. I'm currently using iLife 2011. My iPhoto library now holds over 53,000 photos. (I have been shooting digital since Nov. 2001.)

At a recent Apple keynote, executive announced the new iOS 8 and MacOS X Yosemite operating systems, as well as a new Photos app for iOS and OS X. My questions are based on concerns about the possibility of eventually migrating to Yosemite and Photos.

Does anyone know if Photos will pick up where iPhoto left off? Will Photos still use the same structure of Events, Albums, and Info Comments as iPhoto? Will all of this metadata/structure migrate over?

Will Photos still work with iWeb? (I still use iWeb to publish a couple of web-sites.)

For years, I've been able to store my iPhoto Library on an external hard drive. (My library weighs in at about 120 GB). I do this because I need to access the same library on a desktop and a laptop, so I just plug-in the small hard drive on the machine I'm using iPhoto on and take care of my business. I'm concerned about Photos. Does anyone know if Photos will allow me to continue this arrangement? (I am concerned because I will not be able to access a Cloud-based photo library all the time; sometimes I must go to locations where there is no internet or cellular access.)

I have other questions, but that's all for now. If this is not the correct forum for these questions, I would appreciate it very much if you could recommend which one I should use.

Thank you for your time and attention.

    We don't know at this time, there aren't many details revealed yet. But you will certainly be able to upgrade from iPhoto to Photos. In any case, you should be able to stick with iPhoto almost as long as you want.

    Apple has said that the new Photos application will take up where iPhoto left off, probably add more features and will convert the libraries to the new format as required. We don't know what that format will be at this time.

    And if iWeb is important to you, you are putting the cart before the horse. iPhotos will require Yosemite to run. You might not be able to use iWeb in Yosemite.

    Although iWeb 3 works with the public beta of Yosemite there's no guarantee it will coninue to work. I suggest you start looking for a replacement for iWeb.  It's been discontinued for over 2 years now and just doesn't have the features many users need.

    Many users have migrated to EverWeb which is very iWeb like in it's user interface and basic drag and drop features.  However, EW is much more advanced and is kept up to date by the developers.

    For other potential iWeb replacements search the iWeb community here for "iWeb alternative" and "iWeb alternative" to get a list of topics where the other apps are discussed frequently.

    EW and the other apps have demo versions you can try to see which suits you needs best.

    Is there a place where my questions could be submitted to Apple? Even if they can't give an immediate reply, maybe by the time everything is launched they'll be able to post information.

    In iPhoto's main menu bar is a link "iPhoto > Provide iPhoto Feedback".
