Problem syncing iPod to iTunes

I received the following error message when I tried to manually sync my iPod to iTunes: "The iPod “Richard’s iPod” cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."

How do I rectify this? Thank you.

Many thanks Brett. But I've tried opening iTunes in safe mode (per the article from your link) using shift/control, and all I receive is a box asking my permission for Apple to make changes to my computer. I click ok, then iTunes opens as usual, with no other dialog box or alert. Then when I connect my iPod, the problem's still the same:

"... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."

Grateful for your continued help.

Cheers, Richard
