Why would some .mp4's import to iTunes but not others? When changed to .m4v, they import fine.
At first glance this question seems simple, but I have researched it as best I know how.
I have a PC (We will call it PC1) that I have been using as a movie server for my AppleTV. All of the movie/tv show files are a mix of .mp4 and .m4v (extensions I know work in itunes) with NO issues importing into the itunes library on the aforementioned PC. However, I wanted to move the server to a smaller, dedicated PC (PC2) wired directly to the Apple TV.
Now it should be mentioned that I have done this successfully before with PC2. I synced (mirrored) the Itunes Media folder directly from PC1 to an external drive that is then plugged into PC2.I then set the Itunes path to said folder on the external and then drag all media into the library. I know I can do this automatically but I prefer this method. Most of the files import without an issue. However, there are some .mp4 files that WILL NOT import where they would in the iTunes library of PC1. the odd thing is that if I manually change the extension of these files on the external drive hooked to PC2 and then import that file, it will import without any problem.
Now I looked into the external having correct permission, etc.
So to be clear some but not ALL .mp4 files are importing. I have tried reinstalling itunes, quicktime, reformatting and mirroring the drive over again, etc. This tiny little problem is driving me nuts. And, yes, I HAVE checked the Home Videos portion of movies under the iTunes Library.
I don't see how it could be the files themselves since the work in the itunes library of PC1. Any help or guidance past my exhausted expertise in this matter is greatly appreciated in advance.
