i need to clean out some old photos i deleted them from iPhoto but if i go to upload something the show up under the media and photo tab what do i do

From your post I understand that you're still seeing photos that you deleted from your iPhoto Library in the iTunes syncing options. Have you emptied the iPhoto trash? If not, please follow the steps in the article below for how to delete items from iPhoto.
