Bootcamp installation problems

I'm trying to install Windows7 Home Premium with Bootcamp. I'm running an early 2012 iMac with OSX 10.9.4. Bootcamp Assistant starts normally and I downloaded the Apple drivers to an external USB drive. I'm installing Windows from an image DVD created from an iso file. Bootcamp recognizes the Windows Install DVD but after creating the Windows partition computer tries to reboot the screen just displays a black screen with a flashing cursor. I don't think this is a problem with the Apple drivers because these are installed after the initial Windows installation. I have to install Windows from a DVD as my iMac version doesn't allow USB drive installation, this is only available for iMac's late 2012 and later.

Also starting the computer holding the option key and selecting the Windows install drive doesn't help.

I have also tried restarting from the beginning and removed the Windows partition and started again, every time the same result - black screen.

Any ideas, anyone?

Hello mjd,

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

I found a couple of articles that should be of use to resolving your issue with installing Bootcamp and Windows. Of the two, the first seems most directly relevant.
