Can't install Flash Player

Why can I not install Flash Player instead of getting the error message, Process Not Elevated?

Have tried several times with different downloads.

GarageBand (Mac) '11, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

The question wasn't about upgrading the OS. The question was about installing Flash after getting a supremely stupid "Process not elevated" message. *** is that supposed to mean?? I have my Mac at 10.6.8, and I need to keep it there because of the Adobe software I'm trying to keep operational.

I finally managed to do it by (1) doing a complete uninstall of Flash (just Google it to figure out how to do that and, oh yes, you have to manually remove several files), and then (2) reinstall using http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. It works.

This "Process not elevated" business is just a noxious upgrade "feature" from Adobe. C'mon Adobe, all other software manufacturers allow for easy upgrade. Why can't you?

I use a lot of Adobe software, but the user interfaces really seem to be designed by rather brainless people. Adobe user interfaces are among the worst around, and this upgrade design reflects that inanity perfectly. Let's make it as hard as we can!
