Backup Location

In system information, under storage, my Macintosh HD 320GB SATA Disk has large portion of the storage full with "backups". However, I have an external hard drive with a backup already. The problem is I can't find the backup on my computer to delete it. Anyone know where I could find it or how I could search for it?
