once disconnected and hooked up to headphones it will only play 3 songs but when plugged into my laptop it says theres 14 songs on it.

My laptop shows that I have almost 120 songs, but my iPod plays only 3 songs.
why is my iPod shuffle only playing 3 songs if I synced at least 14?
