used ipod classic trouble syncing my music

bought a used ipod classic 80 gb restored it but it kept previous owners name -synced my library for 12 hours then nothing on the ipod, need help, windows 7 acer

I bought a used ipod classic 80gb off of craigslist. Seller left a few songs on it to show it worked. Tried to sync it to my music library and didnt know how to change previous name. It took 12 hours to finish downloading and then when I went to play it it said there was nothing on it..

I figured out how to change the name to mine but when I mistakenly restored it -the previous owners name came back up!

At the moment my ipod is downloading almost 300 albums, the side bar says Kerry's ipod which is what I typed in.

Im concerned that my songs may not show up on the ipod again after another 12 hours..

Any tips or help is greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance

It should not take 12 hours to Sync an iPod.

  1. First of all, make any changes to your music, such as adding the music to the Library, adding songs to Playlists etc., before connecting the iPod to your iTunes Library.
  2. Once that's done, connect the iPod to your computer/iTunes and use Sync rather than Manually Manage. Sync is easier and quicker.
  3. Look on the Device/Music pane and make sure that you have selected Sync Music. If you have then chosen Sync selected Playlists, etc. you need to make sure you have selected the new music. I suggest that you use Sync Entire Music Library unless you have a very good reason not to (such as your Library is larger than your iPod's capacity). User uploaded file In the picture, note that the Eject iPod icon is in the top left, on the iPod menu bar (The Fiend).
  4. I haven't found a way to rename an iPod in the view above, so I turn on and use the Sidebar (use CTRL S to turn it on) User uploaded file In this view, double-click on the name until it turns blue as shown, and simply type in the new name. I've found that you have to wait until a Sync has finished before you can rename it. iTunes should automatically perform a brief Sync to make this change when you tap the enter key on your keyboard.
  5. If you have iTunes set to Sync Entire Music Library, then any additional music you add to the Library (without the iPod connected to it), will then be added to the iPod at the next Sync. Crucially, if you have the iPod connected to iTunes and then add music to the Library, it will not be added to the iPod as the Sync will have already completed. So in this case, you would need to Sync again.
  6. In the screenshot in step 4, notice the tick box named Sync only ticked songs and videos. I leave this "on", and if I want to remove a song from the iPod but leave it in my iTunes Library, I simply un-tick the song (in the Library) before connecting the iPod. To put it back onto the iPod, I simply turn the tick back on and Sync.

Thanks Brett.

I pretty much tried everything you listed. Second time around I tried manually to load song/albums on to my ipod and initially it seemed to work. Id load an album or two then properly eject my ipod and use it. Everything seemed fine. Then I would download a few more albums, then poof, Id disconnect properly and my ipod said no songs, no albums. It just seems unstable. Plus every time I restore the ipod it starts with the previous owners name and doesnt ask me to name it.

Thanks TF,

I pretty much have done everything you have put up here but to no avail. At the end of my syncing session this used ipod I bought off a random person on craigslist says no songs , no albums, no music etc 3 x's now.. If i manually download and album or two they will show up on the synced ipod. Any more and poof, they disappear.

I had an older ipod so its not like I havent done this before.
