Q: Mavericks 10.9.4 network error
I installed the 10.9.4 update yesterday morning and, in the time since, my computer has been completely unable to access certain websites/applications including the app store (and any system updates) and is unable to fully load other sites. In addition, my computer is unable to access wifi of any sort and must be tethered to access the internet. When wifi use is attempted, it displays the following error message: "Authentification failed on network '(network name)' The identity of the authentification server could not be established. Contact your network administrator to verify your connection settings." I'm sure the genius bar could probably fix this for me, but I was just there to have them replace my battery yesterday and, as a student, I can't really afford to spend much more on them at this point in time.
I've restarted several times, reset the SMC, and reinstalled XpressConnect/reset my network connection to university internet several times, with no success. I also went to the apple store yesterday, before I was aware of this problem (updated and immediately left my computer with them), and no issue was noted there. I haven't encountered anything that could fix this and (somewhat foolishly) do not have a time machine back-up. I cannot access the app store to see if a fix has been released, even when tethered.
My computer is a macbook pro, from about 2010
Processor: 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Storage: 64.79 GB free out of 249.2 GB
Operating system: Mavericks 10.9.4
