Short Summary of Problems with iTUnes:
Dead Links,
Duplicates,
Missing Files,
Names confusion (different names in file and window),
AMR and many other file types not supported (I found no documentation which files are supported)
Genius does not find music,
Searching is not saved and does not search correctlyETC ETC
- Dead Links - operator error, don't move files after connecting them to the library.
- Duplicates - operator error, don't add the same media more than once.
- Missing Files - operator error (same as Dead Links).
- Names confusion - operator error - let iTunes rename files as you edit tags and the file name and path will reflect the tag details.
- Supported file types. See Media formats supported by QuickTime Player. iTunes will play most of these natively whether or not QuickTime is installed. For any that it won't install QuickTime if applicable. If you have media in a format that still isn't supported then find a product that supports it and use that, or convert it to a more widely supported format.
- Genius. If your music is properly tagged and not totally obscure then the Genius feature should be able to do something with it.
- Why should searching be saved? - unjustified expectation.
- Search works. If you can't find what you're expecting to find then chances are you've entered too much, too little, or hidden too many fields in the Songs view. Search works with visible fields. Click the magnifying glass in the search box and experiment with the options. Search entire library determines whether the results are returned in an overlay pane (on) or by filtering content in the main display (off - my preferred option).
