flashing folder with question mark

out of curiosity, i deleted the recovery hd using disk utility. and when i start up my mac, all i can get/see is a flashing folder with question mark inside. i tried pressing option key, but i didn't work.

You will have to reinstall the OSX.


If your MBA came with Lion (10.7) or later, boot the MBA with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.


The display should show a revolving globe.


That will connect you to the Apple servers and by following the directions, will download the original OSX.


If your MBA came with an earlier OSX, you will have to use the OSX install media that came with it.
