Mavericks issue on MacBook Pro.

An Apple genius yesterday told me that I have fully and correctly updated to the Mavericks OS. Shouldn't the icons have changed? They have not, and I am unsure the update is correctly done. Thank you.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
