article mentions blue screen:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464#symp1

try restarting and hold down shift key on keyboard right away, untill it says "safe mode", can take a few minutes.

if safe mode works, could be software conflict, just follow the article.

you can boot from OS CD and run Disk Utlity from the CD, see what it says.

if safe mode does not work, you may need to re-install OS:

screen changing colors like that could be caused by faulty logic board or display.

you would need to get it serviced.

if it is iBook G3 it may be covered by logic board replacement program:

http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/

you can try pressing a little bit on the left side of the case - to the left from trackpad and below keyboard.

if pressing like that will cause color changes, it's likely logic board issue.

I am experiencing "almost" the same issue now. My iBook G4 933mhz is starting up with the infamous "blue screen". I have browsed the tech articles "safe-boot, permissions, fsck, and boot-cd" and still no luck. I was able to boot up with the CD the first time now I get the blue screen with the startup DVD as well. System is the latest 10.4 as of the date of this post. No red or any other colors other than blue during startup. Strange, this system has been very stable and runs great. Any ideas other than taking it over 100 miles away to an Apple store?

I've made attempts to boot from the 10.4 dvd, the 10.3 CD and still no luck. I've attached an external monitor and still no luck. I'm going to try and boot using the control option "T" for the firewire mode and see if I can at least extract the information before replacing the drive to see if that may be the cause. The monitor works, I can see the icons when booting up with the "option" key down but "command+S" no longer works. It seems like the problem continues to get worse and I make any additional attempts to fix the problem. I can't even boot up from a startup DVD to reformat? No more blue screen with the external monitor, just the gray screen with the apple logo in the middle. Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try?
