Q: Dictation not working

My mic is on internal and the purple indicator shows that the sound is being picked up; however there are no dots and no text appearing.

    Hey hercules9295,

There are a few of things you can look at.

The first is your sound preferences. Go to the Apple > System Preferences > Sound and make sure you are on the Input tab. You want to make sure the input volume is sensitive enough to pick up what you're saying.

The second you probably have already seen is the settings for Dictation & Speech. Go to the Apple > System Preferences > Dictation & Speech and make sure you're on the Dictation tab. Under the purple mic it needs to be set to your device, mine is set to Internal Microphone.

The third is to make sure you're using Dictation in the document by either going to Edit > Start Dictation or hitting the "fn" key on your keyboard twice. Here is an article that elaborates on these steps, Mac Basics: Dictation lets you speak text instead of typing. You will see a little icon appear indicating you are ready to start Dictating what you want the mac to type.

    Hope this helps!
