Take a piece of paper and put it over the little line and leave it there for a while and see if it's actually moving.If it doesn't move after another hour or two you may need to force recovery mode but try to give it some more time!!

Aug 17, 2014 5:16 PMby dsa39,I know I'm being impatient it hasn't moved and I've run a diagnostics (clever LOL) and iTunes says no iPhone found connected. Stupid question, can the software be uploading on the phone while iTunes is not connected to the phone? I may have to force recovery but very nervous I'll lose everything!

Aug 17, 2014 5:27 PMby Lyssa,HelpfulIf it's been stuck for more than 30 minutes, reset the phone by holding the home & sleep/wake buttons till the screen goes blank (about 10-15 seconds). Wait a few seconds and try to power up the phone.
Hopefully, your phone will boot up like normal and you'll be good to go

Aug 17, 2014 5:38 PMby Lyssa,Try holding the buttons down longer - for up to a minute - and see if it shuts off on you. This does assume your power button was in good working order before you tried to update
If still no joy and you can do without the phone for a while, just let it sit till the battery runs out. It may boot up just fine after it gets shut down.
