my ipod nano 7th gen only turns on when plugged in

I have a iPod nano 7th generation 16GB and when I don't plug the ipod into a charger whether it's an outlet or my computer, the ipod won't turn on. When it's plugged into an outlet or my computer, it works perfectly fine. It syncs when plugged into my computer. Also, when I keep it plugged for a while, the same thing happens so it's not a battery problem. I also can reset it by pressing the two buttons together but only when it's plugged in. When I unplug it, right away it turns black and nothing happens. I tried resetting it while it being plugged in, but afterwards I unplugged it and the screen went black again.

If the iPod will not turn on unless connected to power it may be a hardware issue.

Follow these steps if your iPod a power-related issue.

Will not turn on or screen remains dark

Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.

If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.

If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.

If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
