Q: How to clean out music library?

I go into the music/ itunes folder and delete every file in there. When I open Itunes again all the files come back and my music is all still there.

    Don't.

Do not touch anything inside the iTunes folder. Let iTunes handle it.

Open iTunes, click Music and delete what you don't want.

Or if you wan to remove everything, quit iTunes and delete the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder.

Then open iTunes and the library will be blank.

Have you emptied the recycle bin?

If you really want to reset everything in iTunes you will need to quit iTunes, remove the 'iTunes media folder' (which is the music & other files) and you will need to remove the 'iTunes Library.ITL' and the 'iTunes Library.xml'. These are the databases that store info about the file locations and play counts etc.

This may help explain about the files…

I figured out how to delete all the music from my library. I went to select all and then hit delete right in ITunes library. Now I just have to figure out how to clear out my Icloud without ITunes Match and how to transfer songs from my IPhone that were not bought from ITunes to my ITunes Library.

Edit > Preferences > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases > Off

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Much easier to simply delete the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder.
